Erik Behrens
Erik Behrens is working at the forefront
of urban development projects within Europe and Asia. He is a former
Assistant Professor in practice of urban design and development,
focussing his interest on our transforming cities and changing relationships
between the built environment, human activities, commerce and culture.
Over the last years, he has built up a distinguished
body of work by collaborating with the American urbanist Prof. Alex
Wall, AA Dipl., the French landscape architects Agenceter and Qingyun
Ma with his Shanghai-based office MADA s.p.a.m. In 2006 he joint
EDAW as a design consultant and is currently playing a key role
in the management team leading a multi-disciplinary team delivering
the masterplans and park design for the Olympic Games in London
in 2012.
Besides winning several international design
competitions, his work for the cross-border development of a former
coal mining region for the European Union, has been recognized with
a German Urban Development Award 2006. He has lectured and exhibited
internationally including the Venice and Shenzhen-Hong Kong Biennale
and the Aedes Architecture Forum in Berlin. He has directed research
and design studios on the contemporary city at the University of
Karlsruhe. He is a chartered city planner and holds a masters degree
in architecture and urban design.
